| Arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory joint disorder characterised by constant pain around the affected joints common in all the forms of disorder. The different forms of Arthritis feature pain, pain patterns may differ in the various forms and in the different locations of the body. The common symptoms of Arthritis include varied levels of pain, swelling, difficulty moving the joints, weight loss, sleep disturbances, inability to use the hand or walk, muscle aches and joint stiffness. Stiffness of joints restricts movements in the disease and also causes disability in the progressive stages of the disease. The major forms of Arthritis are Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and Gouty Arthritis. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of Arthritis prevalent in aged adults in contrast to the Rheumatoid Arthritis affecting middle aged adults. Ayurveda introduces Arthritis therapy for curing the various forms of Arthritis. The inception of the specific Ayurvedic therapy provides effective treatments against the chronic disease. External therapies such as Abhyanga or therapeutic oil massage, Podikkizhi or powder bolus massage, Elakizhi or leaf bolus massage, Njavara or rice bolus massage are used in treatment for Arthritis. Other therapies include Lepanam or medicinal paste application, Sneha Vasthi or oil enema and Kashaya Vasthi or decoction enema. Rheumat tablet and Rheumarid tablet are pain relievers and also effective in relieving Rheumatic conditions. There is also Rheumat Liniment, an external application effective in instant pain relief. The complete treatment for recovery from Arthritis requires 21 days, however, the duration of the treatment depends on the chronic condition of the illness. | |
